Deprecated and Retired AI Models
The models in this directory that AI Model Watch records as deprecated or retired by their providers, with each provider's own notice linked and, where the record names one, the replacement.
38 models. This is the catalogue's record, not a statement by this site; each provider's own announcement is what counts. Records fetched by us , catalogue verified , provider pages checked . "Passed" below means on or before the day we fetched the records. Data: AI Model Watch.
Google's deprecations page says its listed shutdown dates "indicate the earliest possible dates on which a model might be retired", so read any Google date here as the earliest, not a commitment. Read every date as the earliest a provider might act and confirm it with the provider. Where a provider's own page contradicts the catalogue, both values are shown.

Reading a deprecation notice
Deprecated and retired are different states
Providers do not all use the words the same way, but the usual pattern is this. A provider deprecates a model by announcing that it is on its way out, often with a shutdown date and a suggested replacement, and the model normally keeps working until then. It is retired once the provider stops serving it, after which calls to that provider's own API for that model are expected to fail. The status shown above is the one AI Model Watch records, which is not always the provider's exact wording.
A provider API is not an aggregator
These records describe what a provider has done. On a first-party API, meaning OpenAI's, Anthropic's or Google's own, the provider's retirement notice is the one that binds you: when the date arrives, that API stops serving the model. An aggregator sits in front of one or more providers and keeps its own catalogue, so a model can be retired by its provider and still be listed or routed by an aggregator for as long as that aggregator keeps it. The model data in this directory, including its prices and context windows, comes from OpenRouter, which is an aggregator. A model appearing in this directory therefore tells you that OpenRouter lists it, not that its provider still offers it, and a Deprecated or Retired label here is a third-party record rather than a statement about what OpenRouter does. If you call a model through an aggregator, check that aggregator's own notices as well as the provider's.
Check a replacement before you switch
A replacement named in a record is a suggestion, usually the provider's nearest current model, not a drop-in swap. Read the provider's migration notice first, using the source link in the table. Then compare the two models' context windows and prices on their pages here, since both can differ. Run your own prompts through the old and the new model and judge the outputs on the cases you care about, and look for changes in output format, rate limits and supported inputs. Check whether the replacement is itself deprecated; this page says so when the catalogue records it. A replacement with no link is not a model in this directory, so rely on the provider's documentation for it.
Dates move
Treat every date as provisional. Anthropic sometimes publishes only a "not sooner than" window, and this page does not turn that into a date, so such a row shows no firm date. Providers can change a schedule after announcing it, and the catalogue can be wrong in either direction, which is why a row shows both values when the two disagree. A model with no date is not safe, and a model missing from this page has no record, which is not the same as being current. The records are refreshed weekly, and the dates at the top of the page say when they were last fetched and checked.
